Reviews in the national papers.
"Fishing for your supper in Cumbria? You don't have to go to Canada for that log cabin retreat with a stretch of river to yourself. Andy Pietrasik finds some peace beside the river Lyne." The Guardian. Link
Fishing Hideaway is number 2 for the best 5 cabins in the UK:"Shank Wood Log Cabin is a tiny fishing lodge hidden away in the deepest, darkest Esk Valley. Think rustic - no running water and a peat toilet." The Guardian. Link
Fishing Hideaway is number 34 for the best Love Shacks:"Book a week at Shank Wood log cabin and you’ll be risking hermit status, but for a weekend canoodle, it’s enchanting. Just getting there is an adventure: north from Carlisle, past Longtown, and don’t stop until you reach the middle of nowhere. Your reward is a picture-book cabin in a secret sandstone gulch beside the River Lyne, where kingfishers dart through dappled sunlight and trout pop up and beg to be hooked for the barbecue." The Times.
Fishing Hideaway is number 6 for the one of Englands' Quietest spots: "In this quiet but picturesque part of Cumbria, only 30 minutes from the Lake District, you get the run of 140 acres of private woodland full of blue bells and wild garlic in the middle of a two-mile beat of the River Lyne. There is only one place to stay — a cosy log cabin — where lighting is provided by solar power, there is a peat toilet, and the river serves as the fridge. The cabin is at the mouth of a sandstone fault, and the cliffs provide a spectacular backdrop to King Fishers or dippers." The Times.
Some comments from the visitors book:
"All we have to say is never every change this. The most natural, beautiful place we have ever been. Going back to basics is just what having 3 kids at home calls for. The rush of this world is unbearable, but this little peice of heaven creates the most wonderful emotional bliss! We havnt come to fish nor to walk just for a sense of peace. Anymore and it would be too much, any less and it would be far from perfect. You should feel proud. Couldnt have found anywhere better. Thank you." Dan and Polly Haydock - Manchester.
"I would just like to say how much we all enjoyed our weekend together in your little hide away.
The weather could have been kinder , but that didn't deter us in the least, we had a fantastic time fishing (caught 30 fish, 20 sea trout up to 3lbs, returned all bar one to the river)
drinking, eating, laughing enjoying each others company, what a great bonding weekend." The Clay Family.
"Weve really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful, serene and tranquil setting. The perfect escape, wed love to come back some time. Please keep it a secret, thats what makes it! We were lucky enough to have great weather and enjoyed walks along the river and dips in the bracing water. Saw a deer, heron, huge dragonflies, heard woodpecker. Thank you so much for this great experience, youve got a lovely unique place here." Max and Laura - Mitcham, Surrey.
"Fantastic Cabin, loved everything about it! Our black lab Harris was in his element sniffing/experiencing the woods and jumping in the river - would come back every weekend if we could." Sarah and Neil Harris - Cleveland.
