Shank Wood Log Cabin, river and woods are unique, sited within the Lyne valley, a major tributary of the Border Esk. Accommodating up to four people, the cabin has been equipped to a high standard making your visit as comfortable as possible whilst maintaining the unspoilt surroundings.

The Cabin is situated at the mouth of a sandstone fault that contains a mile stretch of the River Lyne. The cliffs provide a spectacular backdrop to anyone watching the King Fishers or Dippers go about their day or casting a fly to the resident wild Brown Trout population or the visiting shy Sea Trout. Both in and out of the gorge the river is slower providing numerous pools where Salmon lie.

For the walkers among you there are 4 miles of spectacular paths and tracks whilst amongst carpets of Blue Bells and Wild Garlic for you to explore the area spotting some of the local flora and fauna that make the area a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Great places to rest and picnic include "Fairy Table", Lady Pool and "Grandpa's Seat."

As the cabin is based in a special area it has been designed to work in conjunction with nature as much as possible. Therefore lighting is provided by solar power, facilities by a continental style peat toilet, and heating by a clean burn wood burner making the cabin a joy in both the winter and the summer. A water dispenser provides drinking, cooking and washing water.

The Cabin is self catering and the large weber BBQ can cook most foods and boil the kettle. There are no fridge facilities but the river is normally pretty cool!
