Shank Wood Log Cabin was designed by Rob Carr a dairy farmer from Longtown, Carlisle. The aim was to provide an eco friendly log cabin paradise in the secluded ancient woodlands of Shank Wood where Rob had spent much of his childhood fishing and discovering the local wildlife and fauna. The beauty of the woodland inspired him to share it with people. So The Fishing Hideaway was born. In keeping with the woodland the log cabin is a “real” log cabin, bespokely designed as a Canadian style cabin using local timber. Shank Wood log cabin is the only cabin of its kind in the wood and it provides a space of tranquility and seclusion, far away from the rush of life. The lack of mobile phone signal, computers and television takes you back in time to get back to nature and be submerged in the woodland.
Fishing is available on the river Lyne and included in the price of your stay. Please see our “fishing” page for the best times to fish.
There are many things to do in the area if you would like to explore or you can just relax on the decking of your cabin the hot tub.
New additions have been added to the cabin over the years to improve an keep the cabin fresh after listening to comments from our visitors, such as a new wood burning hot tub which was added recently providing a piece of luxury within the woodland but still keeping the cabin eco friendly.
The outdoor bathroom pod is the newest addition which provides a welcome place for guests to shower with running hot water and we have had great feedback from this.
Our returning visitors inform us about the new fauna and wildlife they find in the wood, such as Kingfishers, Otters, Deer and Herons and we very much appreciate any comments about your experience at the Shank Wood Log Cabin so we can keep on improving it for years to come.
