Hire a Bike

Enjoy the fantatstic Border Reivers Cycle Trail and learn about the history of the area where more than 400 years ago was so dangerous that priests armed themselves with swords and daggers before daring to set foot here due to the Border Rievers family who lived in castles and Pele towers in the area. These trails are also suitable for Horse riders and walkers.
Horse Riding & Pony Trekking
Why not go horse riding at Lads Lodge Riding Centre in Longtown. A great opportunity for adults to have a day to themselves.
Walks
There are miles of river walks for you to enjoy from the doorstep of your cabin or on your can explore the woodland walks Shank Wood Log Cabin has to offer.
Aswell as these walks there is also the opportunity to discover the local area and take the Border Reiver Walks.
Hadrians Wall is only a 30 minute drive from the cabin,here you can enjoy many walks along the wall and visit some of the information centres. This is a great day out & a fantastic opportunity to explore more of the local scenery, click here for more information.
The Lake District
With the Lake District only a 50 minute drive from Shank Wood cabin, there are many activities for you to enjoy. For the adventurous ones you can try your hand at the water sports, flying or paint balling to name but a few. GO APE!
Whinlater Forest Park in Keswick in the Lake District hosts the highest Go Ape! Adventure course in the UK where you can climb 30ft up a rope ladder, tarzan swing into a giant rope net and then zip wire through the trees, crawl through tunnels and tackle high wire rope bridges. A great day out for friends and family.
Nearest Towns and Shops
Only 25 minutes drive from the cabins, Carlisle is your nearest large town and it has plenty of interesting activites to do whilst on your log cabin holiday. Brampton and Longtown are small market towns nearby
